Callimachus (substitute blogger) has some interesting thoughts on religious tolerance over at Michael Totten's Middle East Journal.
It is, if nothing else, a reminder that the concept of "separation of Church and State" was once intended to protect the former from the latter, not the other way around.

The point he (and the people he cites) seems to be trying to make is "as long as you're not hurting anyone - or inciting people to hurt folks - nobody has any right to tell you what beliefs you hold." This is a sentiment I can whole-heartedly agree with, especially with its corollary of reasoned argument.
Universal tolerance is indeed foolishness. I feel strongly that sooner or later we're going to have to root out Islam once and for all. I may be wrong, but my instincts tell me that radical Islamism is inextricably rooted in Islam itself, and until we wipe out the roots the weed will keep growing back. However, I'll be the first to say that I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. Can you change the hearts and minds of that many people? Can you quarantine it, like you would a plague? Finding a solution that wouldn't be as bad as the disease is not gonna be easy.
